1948 Chester S&Co Iona Abbey Frieze Brooch

Hallmarked clearly for Shipton and Co, Chester, 1948.

Exquisitely well-cast this bar brooch with silver safety chain depicts a carving from the south choir-arcade in Iona Abbey. The carving was illustrated in the RCAHMS Inventory 4 (Iona) 1982 and can also be found as a wood-carving in Iona Celtic Art (E. Mairi MacArthur, 2005).

Approx 65mm, safety chain, excellent condition.
