Beautiful silver brooch based on the carved foliage on the pillars in the Abbey on Iona. This brooch is in great condition and is fully hallmarked for A.H. Darby in 1947.
You can find detailed photos of the pillars in the RCAHMS Argyll Inventory No 4 (Iona) (1984) and a drawing of the brooch in 'The Celtic Art of Iona- Drawings and Reproductions from the Manuscripts of the late Alex Ritchie of Iona' by Iain MacCormick (1994. Page 41).
Condition good, some small nicks but a very good, solid brooch
