Iain MacCormick grew up on Iona in the early part of the 20th century. He trained in metalwork with the legendary Alex Ritchie of Iona Celtic Art and carried on working in silver to original Ritchie designs after Alex's death in 1941.
This IMC brooch is based on the 'pseudo-pennanular' Hunterston early 8th century brooch, discovered in 1826 and now in the National Museum of Scotland.
Approx 40mm across. Excellent condition.
No hallmarks but marked and tests for silver.
